Out of all the countless home remedies for colon cleansing and full body detoxification, simply drinking sea salt dissolved in water may just be one of the oldest methods still in use. But is it safe to excessively increase your salt intake?
How this cleansing method works: You quickly ingest more salt than the your system is able to absorb, thereby forcing the excess through the small intestines and out of the body.
The general idea the sea salt colon cleanse is that the salt will quickly absorb toxins and kill off unwanted microorganisms, as well as draw excess water into the bowel to flush them out. Unfortunately, while this time tested technique may achieve the some of the desired results, they come at a steep price.

A typical Sea Salt Colon Cleanse recipe calls for two or more table spoons of sea salt (or un-iodized table salt) to be dissolved in a quart of hot water, and then drunk while still warm. Some recipes call for several such quarts a day.
