Alternative Health Care: 5 Health Care Changes We’d Like to See

Health care has changed a lot in the last five years… and, hopefully, it will continue to evolve to provide the best care for the greatest number of people. However, far too many natural health or alternative health practices aren’t covered by the typical insurance plan or Medicare/Medicaid.

Here are five alternative health care treatments we’d like to see covered.

1. Herbal remedies

Herbal Remedies

Typically, insurance plans don’t include herbal remedies. However, there are many people who find that while pharmaceuticals or other “traditional” medicines don’t work for their particular condition, herbal remedies do. Colonoscopy vs. Sigmoidoscopy: Doctors Can’t Make Up Their Minds

Recently, there has been quite a controversy regarding two different colon cancer screening methods. Patients are asking whether a colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy is better, and doctors just can’t seem to make up their minds.

The main difference seems clear: Colonoscopies screen the entire colon, and sigmoidoscopies only screen a third of it. But why is it that doctors have such differing views about which of the procedures works best?

Unfortunately, it seems that these periodic bouts are becoming increasingly common and severe in many young children, according to a new report from John Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore.

In response to this growing trend, gastroenterology specialists at John Hopkins Children’s Center have recently created a new multidisciplinary medical and behavioral therapy clinic aimed specifically at treating constipation in children.

This may seem a little excessive, even for a top-tier research institute like John Hopkins, but considering they’ve noticed a more than 30% increase in the number of young patients suffering from constipation, opening this new clinic may be a prudent measure, to say the least.
