Colon Cleanse Side Effects

Colon Cleanse Side Effects

When done correctly, a colon cleanse can be a great way to help the body flush out residual waste matter and other toxins. However, something that many first-time cleanse users fail to prepare for are the potential negative side effects typically associated with the process of colon cleansing.

The presence of toxic material being eliminated from the lining of the small intestine and colon can trigger a wide range of temporary unpleasant symptoms. Usually, the side effects of colon cleansing are normal and usually subside shortly after the compacted waste is completely passed from the colon. The greater an individuals toxic stockpile, the more intense there reaction to cleansing may be.

Unfortunately, this means a first-time colon cleanse may be an especially rough and tiresome experience for many people. Especially if they use a herbal based cleanser. On the bright side, however, it also means that most colon cleanse side effects become increasingly manageable with repeated practice. And the benefits far outweigh the symptoms.

Common Colon Cleanse Side Effects

Fatigue, headache and drowsiness are by far the most common side effects of colon cleansing. Nearly everyone who has a poor diet experiences these symptoms to one degree or another—even those individuals who cleanse regularly.

Bloating, nausea and loss of appetite are all also relatively normal. More serious colon cleanse side effects include severe cramping, vomiting and diarrhea. These symptoms, however, should be both moderate and short-lived.

In very rare cases, the sudden surge of toxins can overwhelm the body’s natural defense mechanisms and induce an allergic reaction, skin reaction, or even a mild form of toxic shock syndrome. Again, these side effects are very, very rare. But it is important to understand all of the potential risks involved any time you subject you body to an in-depth colon cleanse. It’s also important that you perform the first couple of days of your cleanse over the weekend and notify a friend or family member that you are planning to begin your cleanse.

How to Reduce The Side Effects of Colon Cleansing

The best way to minimize the potential side effects of a colon cleanse is to begin with a safe, high-quality cleansing supplement. Take the time to find a natural colon cleanser with a proven track record. Oxygen-based colon cleansers are by far the safest and most effective, but they are also the most expensive. You get what you pay for.

It’s also important to stay well hydrated every time you do a colon cleanse. Without sufficiently ample quantities of purified water moving through the body, dislodged toxins can linger within the body which may cause an increased side effects. It is a good idea to eat only fresh organic fruit during your cleanse to reduce potential side effects.

Avoid using cheap drugstore or supermarket sold herbal cleansing products as many of them may be contaminated with pesticides and other harmful chemicals used during their production and manufacturing processes.

Colon hydrotherapy, is also a safe alternative to supplements, enemas, and other types of manual cleansing. People report minimal side effects and positive benefits. Colon hydrotherapy techniques must be administered by a licensed highly trained practitioner for safety. There are many colon cleansing spas that you can visit for a safe, and relaxing experience.

Colon Cleansing Is Beneficial

All things considered, the benefits of colon cleansing far out weight the prospective side effects. Like so many other things that are good for you, colon cleansing isn’t always fun, but it isn’t nearly as bad as some people might have you believe. And more importantly, your body will thank you for it down the road.
