Constipation and Cleansing the Colon

Constipation is the passage of small amounts of hard, dry bowel movements, usually fewer than three times per week. Millions of Americans exhibit constipation symptoms on a frequent basis, both minor and severe. Given how many people experience this, and how often, it gives support to the argument that constipation is so prevalent and widespread it should be considered an epidemic.

Think about animals you’ve seen in their own natural habitat – birds, horses, cows, rabbits, ducks. Animals that eat and drink directly from the earth typically produce multiple bowel movements every day. Given the “decorating” of statues and cars that birds often do, it’s hard to believe constipation in birds is a significant problem in nature. Ask any farmer when they last witnessed a cow straining in the field. Your bowel habits should be no different. You should have a minimum of two soft, easy-to-pass bowel movements daily. If this is not the case, then you are constipated and waste is accumulating in your system.

Even with regular bowel movements, it’s possible to have hard, compacted fecal matter in your intestinal tract. Many people suffering from constipation feel like they have incomplete bowel evacuation, which causes strain. Straining can lead to anal fissures or hemorrhoids.

Symptoms of Constipation

It might be surprising, but bad breath is a commonly overlooked symptom of constipation. The mouth and stomach are connected and a sluggish digestive tract can allow gasses to rise from the stomach or intestines and give the mouth a putrid odor. If you smell this odor, you need to address the root cause by cleansing your system and eliminating toxins from your diet and environment. Your body will always give you signs when something is wrong, you need to listen to it.

Skin eruptions or blemishes can be signs of a colon trying to eliminate toxins. The skin is a major organ that aids in eliminating waste. While it’s impossible for the skin to remove fecal matter, the epidermis (the outer layer of the skin) can show symptoms of attempting to rid the body of toxins by breaking out.

Ironically, constipation can also lead to episodes of diarrhea. Paradoxical diarrhea occurs when soft or liquid waste matter passes around the impacted matter lodged in the colon. That’s a problem.

Constipation is one of many precursors to bowel disorders and other diseases. Having lived with constipation in the past is no reason to continue doing so, especially when it can be remedied by cleansing your colon.
