It’s no secret that regular exercise helps your entire body to function more efficiently-including your digestive system. But did you know that there are exercises that are specifically terrific for colon cleansing and aiding in digestion? Here’s a list of our top five colon cleansing exercises to add to your routine.

1. Walking

In 2007, a study by the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis showed that walking for just an hour each week helps to fight colon cancer [1].

Specifically, the study found that women that walked one to two hours per week were 31% less likely to develop colon cancer than those that didn’t walk at all. Walking is a low-key exercise that increases blood flow to and from the intestines, helping your digestive system to operate as efficiently as possible.

2. Crunches

Doing abdominal crunches not only helps to banish your belly but also helps to improve colon health. Stronger abdominal muscles allow matter to be pushed more forcefully through the colon, helping to eliminate toxins and other waste in a more timely manner. Besides doing just abdominal crunches, try doing other core exercises to help strengthen your core, improve balance and improve overall digestion.

3. Jumping Rope

You may not have jumped rope since grade school, but here’s a great reason to pick up that jump rope once again: it improves colon health!

Just ten minutes of jumping rope is about as effective as running an eight-minute mile. Not only does it give your whole body a workout, but the jumping movements that you do while jumping rope helps to clean and tighten the organs, particularly the digestive tract.

4. Crow Yoga Pose

Yoga has gotten a lot of attention recently, and for good reason. This particular pose, called the Crow pose, is particularly good for helping to cleanse the colon. Simply squat with your feet flat on the ground and your elbows held outside of your legs. Place your hands flat on the ground and hold the pose for two to three minutes while breathing deeply. This pose helps to strengthen the abdominal muscles and aids in digestion.

5. Cobra Yoga Pose

The Cobra pose is another yoga pose that’s great for improving digestion.

To do the Cobra pose, simply lay down on your stomach on your yoga mat, and slowly raise your torso so that your face is raised to the sky. Your back will stretch, and you will resemble a cobra (hence the name!). This pose helps to stretch the abdominal muscles, aiding cleansing of the digestive system.

These are just five exercises that can help you to have the most efficient digestive system possible! Do you have any colon cleansing exercises that you like to do?
